He was born in Sunfield Township, October 28, 1919 the son of George and May (Gallupp) Coppess and was a lifelong resident and farmer of the Sunfield area. Mr.Coppess was a member of the Sunfield United Brethren Church and had served on the church board, also on the school board for eight years and was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was chosen as the "Parent of the Year"for his support of Athletics at Ferris State college and had been associated with the Boy Scouts and the 4-H. He married Theda Penfold August 12, 1942, who survives; also four daughters, Mrs Linda Smith of Woodland, Mrs Mary Hokenson of Vermontville Mrs Jennifer Miller of Sunfield and Mrs.Margaret Ward of Fresno, Calif; three sons, Richard of Lansing, Robert of Sunfield and Ronald of Woodland; his mother, Mrs.Mae Reahm of Lansing; two bothers, George of Garden Michigan and John of Sunfield; two sisters, Mrs Dorothy Steward of Sunfield and Mrs.Adelaide Dalton of Lake Odessa; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 18 at the Mapes-Fisher Funeral Home at Sunfield with burial in the Sunfield Cemetery. Rev. John Harkness of Wheeler and Rev. Carl Olson officiated.
