He attended grade school and high school in Ionia and then attended Michigan State College, graduating magna cum laude in 1937. He worked as a CPA for Ernst & Ernst and then for over 30 years as treasurer of Owen-Ames-Kimball Corp. In 1938 Wayne married Maxine Callow, and they were a devoted couple until her death in 1998. They were a major influence in the lives of their children and grandchildren, setting a good example of successful lives well lived. Wayne and Maxine loved traveling and visiting friends and family throughout the world. They also were very active in Park Congregational Church. Wayne was past president of Kiwanis-Downtown Club and served on the Kiwanis Foundation Board. He also served on the pilgrim Manor Retirement Home Board and for the Volunteers of America. Wayne LaVern Corey is survived by his son, Wayne Corey, Jr. (KY) of Laguna Niguel, California, and his daughter, Barbara Corey Snyder, of Escondido, California. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine, and son James Brian Corey. He leaves four grandchildren; Pamela Corey and Christopher Corey of Laguna Niguel, Cal., Susan Carrera (Robert) of Lakewood, Colo., and Mark Snyder (Valerie) of Henderson, Nev. Wayne is also survived by five great grandchildren, Matthew, Christina and Maria Carrera and Jacob and Luke Snyder, and one nephew, Ned Graham. Family and friends of Wayne remember him always as a gentleman, dignified, humble and decent. A private family memorial service will be held in Michigan and he will be interred at Highland Park Cemetery in Ionia. The family is being served by Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service, Grand Rapids.
