Mrs. Helen Corey was born near Hopkinsville, St. Lawrence county, New York, in 
the year 1940.  She was married to Oscar O. Corey, July 30th, 1859, in Adams, 
Jefferson county, New York.  The result of this union was three children, the 
eldest son, Fred, having passed away several years ago.  She leaves a husband 
and two children:  Walter Corey and Mrs. C. W. Connell, of this city, to mourn 
her loss, also two brothers and one sister:  Mr. Richard Pickett, of Grand 
Rapids, Mich., Mr. John Pickett, of Eureka, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Kinney, of 
Ionia.  The family moved to Ionia in 1863, when Mrs. Corey united with the 
Disciples church, of which she was a member for several years.  She afterwards 
united with the Baptist church, of which she was a member until the time of her 
death.  She was also an earnest worker in all good causes, being an honored 
member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah orders, and the Woman’s Relief Corps.  
Her hand was ever ready to extend help to all, and she was greatly loved by all 
who knew her.  Her loss will be deeply felt, both in her own home and among her 
host of friends.

The funeral of Mrs. O.O. Corey was held at the family residence, in South 
Ionia, on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock.  The sermon was by Rev. W. H. Scott, 
who spoke cheering words of comfort to all.  The floral tributes were very 
fine.  There were present from abroad: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pickett and Mrs. M. 
Zacharias and little daughter, of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Cora Gloster of Toledo.
