Lyons Herald, 11 Jan 1901

The remains of Dr. Jay Corey, who died at Fort Scott, Kansas, Jan. 1, arrived at 
Pewamo last Friday, and the funeral took place from the Vance house Sunday.  he 
was a brother of P.G. Corey, of this place, and Mrs. B. S. Patrick, of East 
Plains.  He leaves a wife and one son, who return to their home in Kansas the 
latter part of this week.  The deceased was a native of East Plains but for many 
years he had a successful career as a physician in Fort Scott.  Interment was 
made in the family lot in East Plains cemetery.
