Ionia Sentinel Standard, 17 Jan 1936

Candace Martha McVeigh Corey, 73, daughter of Bartow W. and Mary H. McVeigh, was
born June 6, 1863 in Lebanon township, Clinton county.  She passed away after
suffering ill health for several years, at her home one mile west of
Hubbardston, January 8.

She was the third child of a family of six children, three brothers, John,
George and Byron, and two sisters, Jane and Mary Percie.  All except one sister,
Mary Percie, have preceded her in death.  She was united in marriage to James A.
Corey, May 27, 1885.  To this union was born five children:  Cassie Nell,
Flossie May, Vernon Wright, Arthur L., Jr., and Foster McVeigh Corey.  They made
their home on the farm one mile west of Hubbardston, living there until the fall
of 1908?, when they moved to Britton, South Dakota.  They came back to
Hubbardston in 1921.  While living in Dakota two children were lost in death. 
Mrs. Cassie Carver and the youngest child, Foster McVeigh Corey.

She leaves her husband, James Corey, one daughter, Flossie M. Preiss, of Gary
Indiana; two sons, Vernon, of Detroit, and Arthur L. at home; one sister, Mary
Percie Eldridge, of Carson City, and four grandchildren, E. Eugene and F.
Geraldine Carver, of Britton, South Dakota, and Candace Maree and Marilyn
Preiss, of Gary, Indiana.

The funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon, Rev. Floyd N.
Drake, officiating.  Mr. and Mrs. Charles Langdon sang her favorite hymns.  The
pall bearers were Keith and Kenneth Hillabrandt, Harry Corey, Kendall Corey,
Will Rogers and Frank Hayden.  The burial was in the East Plains cemetery.
