Leva D. Corey, 93, former Ionia resident, died Tuesday evening at Pilgrim Manor
in Grand Rapids.  Born in Montcalm County July 22, 1890, the daughter of
Christian and Christine Frauenfelder Swartz.  She attended rural schools in
Montcalm County and worked in the Carten Department Store in Ionia.

She was married to O. LaVerne Corey in Ionia on July 1, 1915.  He preceded her
in death May 10, 1917.  Following her husband’s death, she worked at a
department store in Greenville and then returned to work in the Quality Store in
Ionia.  Later she was a partner in the Vogue Shop and later operated Corey’s
Dress Shop until her retirement.

She was a member of Ionia First Christian Church, and the Faith group and
Bethany Circle of her church, and was a former member of Ionia Business and
Professional Women’s Club.

She is survived by one son, Wayne, of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral Home,
the Rev. F. Michael Valentine officiating.  Committal services will be held at
the funeral home, with later burial in Highland Park Cemetery, Ionia.  The
family will be at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.  A memorial has been
established for the First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.
