Alfred Cornell, passed peacefully to her heavenly reward at eight o’clock this morning, at her rooms in the Myron Smith residence on East Washington street. She was born in Chautauqua county, New York, on January 25, 1838, and her early life was spent there. 38 years ago she married her late husband, then pastor at Norwalk, Ohio, the ceremony being performed by her brother-in-law, Rev. W. R. Connelly, who came to Ionia with Mrs. Cornell from the west last summer, and who was at the bedside of the good woman at her last sleep. Her husband had served the Ionia Baptist church 17 years, and after their marriage he was recalled and served two years more. He was then pastor of the Baptist churches at Portland, Palo, Smyrna, and Carson City, and in all of those places Mrs. Cornell won and held many friends who loved her for her worth and works. Mrs. Cornell was a cheerful, patient and devoted soul; she was especially active in the denominational missionary work, and had served as president of the Ionia society, and the Ladies’ society of the Grand River association. Funeral at the Baptist church at 2 o’clock p.m. on Friday, her pastor, Rev. D. L. Martin, officiating. Burial in Oak Hill.
