R. Cornell, eldest son of Thomas Cornell, who has been residing at Stanton during the summer, returned home last week for a brief visit. On Saturday he was attacked with ague, having a severe chill during the day. On Sunday morning, he suggested taking some quinine. Some time ago, Mrs. Cornell had taken a powder from a vest she was repairing, which she supposed to be quinine. This she procured for him, and proposed dividing it into two powders; but he thought he had better take the whole, and thus break up the ague. He accordingly swallowed it, and in a short time was thrown into spasms. All the symptoms indicated that a terrible mistake had been made, and that he had taken strychnine instead of quinine. Nothing that was done seemed to afford any relief, and he died in about an hour and a half after taking the poison. Mr. Cornell met with an accident several years ago, by which he lost an arm, and now by accident he has lost his life. His funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, which were largely attended.
