Feb. 20, 1914 DEATH CLAIMS L.A. CORNELL Pioneer Merchant Dies at His Home West of the City Today. The death of Lucien Albert Cornell occurred at 7:30 this morning at his home in Easton township, near the viaduct on West Main street. Mr. Cornell was born in this vicinity in 1845 and had spent all of his life here. He was the son of Dr. Alonson Cornell, who settled here shortly after the Dexter colony arrived from New York state. Mr. Cornell was one of the early merchants of the city being an owner with his brother of the White Front store where the Allen Press formerly had their Racket store. Later the Cornell Brothers sold their store to A.S. Wright. Lucien Cornell then went into the sewing machine business, having been agent for the White machine for nearly 30 years. Lately Mr. Cornell had been engaged in the _______ of ________truck and flowers at his home The deceased is survived by a widow, Frances Gates Cornell; a son, Arthur, and daughters, Mrs. Van Auken of Lansing, Mrs. Bert ______ and Mrs. William Laurie of this city. The funeral will be held from the late residence at 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, Rev. E.E. Branch officiating and interment will take place in Oak Hill cemetery.
