Ionia Daily Standard - Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1898

Another death from scarlet fever is reported. Ethel, the seven years old 
daughter of Clarence Cornwell, living with her grandmother, Mrs. Golden, in 
South Ionia, died at noon today, having been sick but a few hours. the little 
one had the disease in its worst form. She was an exceptionally bright and 
cheerful child and a favorite in that neighborhood.
