Ionia Sentinel Standard - June 7, 2011


Ruth A. Cotton, 88, of Ionia, passed away June 5, 2011 in Lowell. She was born 
Aug. 11, 1922 in Middleville, the daughter of Fred J. and Bessie M. (Helms) 
Townsend. 



Ruth married Elwyne Cotton March 30, 1974 in Ionia. She worked for Chrysler at 
the Lyons plant for several years. After retirement she took up crocheting 
afthans which she gave as wedding, baby, housewarming gifts and donated many 
for raffles. She enjoyed music and dancing. Her favorite game in later years 
was Yahtzee (she yelled it a lot). We figured her dice were loaded.



Her presence will be missed by all who loved and knew her. Our family reunions 
will not be the same. 



Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Elwyne Cotton of Lowell; 
children, Gayle M. (Ken) Ritenburgh of Ionia and daughter-in-law, Barb Clark of 
Lyons; grandchildren, Brian, (Val) Ritenburgh of Orleans, Lorrie Herald of 
Gratten, Deanne (Todd) Jenks of Orleans, Rick Clark of Saranac, Terri Conley of 
Florida and Jenny (Cary) Sawtell of Ionia; 13 step grandchildren; 10 great 
grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; four sisters; one 
son, Richard Clark; one grandson, Michael; and one granddaughter, Amy. 



A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating.
