Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2002

Mrs. Merian O. Cottrell, 86, of Easton Township passed away Nov. 26, 2002 at 
Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus in East Grand Rapids.  She was born on Sept. 
17, 1916 in Otisco Township, the daughter of Clark and Anna (Patterson) 
Holliday.  Merian retired from Gen. Corp. in Ionia.  She was a member of Temple 
Baptist Church in Ionia.  She enjoyed many hobbies including birds and nature.

Surviving are four sons, David (Charlotte) Fountain of Lawton, Daryle (Joan) 
Fountain, Steve (Marcia) Fountain and Galen (Cheryl) Fountain all of Ionia; one 
step-son, John (Carol) Cottrell of Stanton; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-
grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two husbands, Fay Fountain and 
Lesley Cottrell; and two sisters, Thelma Holliday and Betty Foote.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday from the Temple Baptist 
Church in Ionia with Rev. Jim Houseman officiating.  Interment in Easton 
Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 
p.m., Friday at the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.  Memorial 
contributions can be made to the Temple Baptist Church Memorial Fund or a 
contribution of your choice.
