Cottrell, 65, of 2594 Dick road, was killed Saturday morning while riding a snowmobile near Greenville. According to Montcalm County sheriff deputies, who investigated the accident, a car, driven by Michael A. Belcher, 31, of Belding was eastbound on Airport drive towards the airport and was following the snowmobile which Cottrell was riding. Deputies were told that the snowmobile came to a stop, however, Belcher did now know it had and struck it in the rear, throwing Cottrell from the machine. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A complete obituary appears on page 3 of today's Sentinel-Standard. Leslie C. Cottrell IONIA- Leslie C. Cottrell, 65, of Dick road, was killed Sunday morning in a car- snowmobile accident at the Greenville Airport in Greenville. He was born in Belding June 11, 1912, the son of Clarence and Ann Perry Cottrell and attended schools in Belding. He served with the U.S. Army in the African campaign during World War II and returned to the Belding area after the war where he was a self-employed painter. He married Merlan Fountain September 28, 1957 in First Methodist church in Ionia. They made their home on Price street, moving to the present residence in 1969. Mr. Cottrell worked at Ionia manufacturing and successor firms and then for Dave Stebbins at McPherson Hatchery, retiring in 1974. He was a member to Temple Baptist church and a life member of the Ionia Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, his father, Clarence of Auburn, Kentucky; one son, John of Stanton; four step-sons, David, Daryle, F. Stephen and Galen Fountain of Ionia; seven grandchildren; one brother, Clifford of Grand Haven and two sisters, Mrs. Roger (Mildred) Wright of Belding and Mrs. Lawrence (Marion) Barry of Auburn, Kentucky. Services are Wednesday at 2 pm from Temple Baptist church with Rev. Ralph Barton officiating. Burial is in Easton cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Leddick funeral home Monday and Tuesday 7 to 9 pm.
