Ionia Daily Sentinel – 10 March 1967
Herbert L. Courter, 85, of 314 College Avenue, N.E., Grand Rapids, died 
suddenly at his home late Thursday.  He was born August 1, 1881, the son of 
the late Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Courter.  He spent 35 years on a farm in South 
Boston, farming from 1904 to 1914.  In 1914 he moved to Saranac and worked as 
a carpenter.  He and his wife Lucinda, spent several winters in Florida.  She 
preceded him in death in 1963.  Surviving are two brothers, Floyd E. Courter 
of Grand Rapids and Basil Ward Courter of Saranac; one sister, Mrs. Mary 
Rollins of Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 pm at Morris Roetman funeral home in 
Saranac with Rev. James Frank officiating.  Burial will be in South Boston 
cemetery.
