She was a native of Campbell township, Ionia county, and a lifelong resident of the area. She married Bert Courtnay, September 17, 1902 and they lived in Orange township before moving to this area. Mr. Courtnay passed away June 28, 1942 and Mrs. Courtnay moved to the village in 1950. A member of the Congregational church for many years, she also attended the Calvary United Brethren church and was active in the church organizations and Sunday school. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Verna) Robinson of Lakeland, Mich., and Mrs. Geo. (Anna) Lulak of Encino, Calif.; two sons, Ivan and Stanley of Lake Odessa; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Jennie Frey of Saranac and Mrs. Mable Bellington of Geneva, Indiana and a brother Claude Jackson of Lansing. Three sons, Merion, Herbert, and Charley and two daughters Mrs. Lois Demeray and Mrs. Charlotte Shellman preceeded her in death. Funeral services were held on Friday at 3:30 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. Paul Bennehoff officiated.
