Born April 6, 1915, in Orange township, he was the son of Charles and Anna Thorpe Courtnay and a lifelong resident of the area. He attended the Lake Odessa public schools and the Sunfield United Methodist church. August 17, 1935, he was married in Ionia to Anna Maria Bazan. He was employed by Chrysler Trim plant in Lyons 11 year, retiring as a foreman in 1974. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Charles of Lake Odessa, and Phares of Sunfield; daughter, Mrs. Charlene Crosby of Hastings; five grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Anna Bever of Lake Odessa; brother, Fred Courtnay of Hastings. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 pm at the Pickens-Koops funeral chapel at Lake Odessa. Rev. John Morse of Sunfield officiated and interment was at Lakeside cemetery. Bearers will be Roy Gooden, Clark Hogan, Herb Possehn, Carl Haskins, Henry Smith and Carl Klahn.
