He was born April 6, 1915 in Orange Township, Ionia County, son of Charles and Anna (Thope) Courtnay and was a lifelong resident of the area. He had attended the Lake Odessa public schools and the Sunfield United Methodist Church. He married Anna Marie Bazan August 17, 1935 at Ionia. Mr. Courtnay was employed by the Chrysler Trim plant at Lyons for 11 years and was a foreman when he retired in November of 1974. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Charles of Lake Odessa and Phares of Sunfield; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Charlene) Crosby of Hastings; his mother, Mrs Anna Bever of Lake Odessa; 5 grandchildren; a brother, Fred Courtnay of Hastings and a sister in law, Mrs. Dorothy Courtnay of Sunfield. Funeral services were held Wednesday at one o'clock at the Pickens-Koops Funeral Chapel with burial in Lakeside Cemetery. Rev. John Morse officiated.
