Matthew R. Couzzins, 69, of rural Muir, died Tuesday at Ingham Medical Center 
in Lansing.  He was born on May 5, 1919, in North Plains Township, the son of 
Richard and Mary Ellen Welch Couzzins.  

Couzzins was a lifetime area resident of Muir and retired from farming in 
1981.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, No. 2198.  In 1947 he 
married the former Ann Beahan, who survives him in Carson City.  

Also surviving are four daughters: Sue Couzzins and Margaret Couzzins, both of 
Lansing, Nan Miller of Muir and Mollie DeLong of Greenville; and one son, 
Patrick, Couzzins of Winchester, Ky.  One sister, Martha Couzzins, of Denver, 
Colo., and one brother, Porter Couzzins, and six grandchildren also survive 
him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s 
the Baptist Church in Hubbardston.  The Rev. William Reitz will officiate.  
Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Rosaries will be recited on Thursday 
and Friday at 8 p.m. at the Schnepp Funeral Home in Carson City.  The family 
will receive friends on Tuesday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 
9 p.m.
