The Carson City Gazette, Thursday, January 10, 1957


Funeral services were held this (Thursday) morning at 10 from St. John the 
Baptist church at Hubbardston for Mrs. Mary Ellen Couzzins, 73, who passed away 
at her home on route one, Muir, five miles west of Hubbardston, Monday morning, 
January 7, at 9:20.  Rev. E. R. Fox, pastor of the church, officiated at the 
rites which were arranged by the Burns-Gunther Funeral Home of Carson city.  
Interment was in St. John the Baptist cemetery, Hubbardston.  

Death ended an illness of a year and a half, during which Mrs. Couzzins spent 
four months in a Lansing hospital and one month in the Carson City hospital.

She was born in North Plains township, Ionia county, February 5, 1883, and 
married Richard Couzzins June 7, 1910.  They spent all their married life in 
North Plains township, Mr. Couzzins preceding her in death July 28, 1955.  Mrs. 
Couzzins was a member of the Rosary Alter Society, the Catholic Country Club 
and the Farm Bureau.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gerald Moriarity of Portland and Sister Mary 
Ricardo of St. David’s Convent, Detroit; two sons, Porter of Carson City and 
Matthew of Muir; 14 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Dennis O’Connell of 
rural Fowler and Miss Elizabeth Welch of rural Muir.

Subsequent Publication:  Thursday, January 17, 1957

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Ellen Couzzins Thursday morning at 10 
o’clock with Rev. Eugene R. Fox offering the requiem mass.  Monsignor Hankert 
of St. David’s parish, Detroit was present for the services.  Burial was in St. 
John the Baptist cemetery.
