Covert, who died suddenly at the home of her niece, Mrs. Maude McCormack, in Danby, Sunday morning. Though she was 87 few people more closely followed important affairs of state and current events. She kept in touch with local affairs and one of the last acts of her life was to sign an application for an absent voter’s ballot, to be used in the Danby township election Monday. She did this Saturday evening, retired shortly thereafter, and during the night became seriously ill, passing away in a few hours. Miss Covert was born in Phelps, N.Y., in 1845, and for the last 30 years had resided with Mrs. McCormack. The ideal location of the farm on the banks of Grand river gave her the opportunity she so greatly enjoyed—that of studying the wild life. She had written a number of very interesting nature stories, one of which, relating to cats and birds, appeared in the Review several years ago. Of late Miss Covert had been confined to the house, but on the first day of April insisted on going out in the yard to observe how vegetation was responding to the warmth of spring. It was her last walk, out in the open spaces, out in the beautiful world she loved so well. Though not a member, Miss Covert attended the Methodist church, and was one of its loyal workers. She was much interested in missionary work. Funeral services will be held at the house Tuesday at 2:00. Burial in Danby cemetery.
