Covert. Deceased had been ill with the grippe, for a week, but on Thursday was so much better that she sat up and wrote two letters to Ionia, one to the family of F. A. Stiven, and the other to the family of John A. Sessions, a brother. Deceased was well, and very widely known in Ionia county. She was one of the large family of children of Hon. and Mrs. Alonzo Sessions, pioneer residents of Berlin township—both long since deceased. Deceased was aged 44 years. The news of her death was received in Ionia, her home town, and where she spent so much of her life, with the most heartfelt sorrow. She was endowed with many womanly qualities and numbered friends in large numbers. Her husband, Riley W. Covert, died in the spring of ’94. Two sons survive, Sidney, aged 21, and Hal, aged 14. The mother and two boys moved to Chicago about a year ago, Sidney having employment there. She was a member of Ionia Hive of the L.O.T.M. o f this city, and a past lady commander. The remains will be brought to Ionia for interment, arriving here at 8:27 on Tuesday evening. Funeral service at the home of John A. Sessions, East Washington street, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Subsequent Publication: Wednesday, February 13, 1901 The remains of Mrs. Lelia J. Covert arrived in the city at 8:27 last evening, accompanied by her two sons, Sidney and Hal, also by two brothers, Hal C. of South Dakota, and Frank A. of Chicago, and Miss Katharine, the daughter of H. C. Sessions. The burial was this afternoon, the funeral service being at the home of John A. Sessions. The attendance of mourning friends was beyond the capacity of the house to accommodate. Very many of the more intimate friends availed themselves of the opportunity to view the remains during the morning hour. The features were placid; in truth, deceased was “beautiful in death.” The floral tributes were profuse, and set pieces by the L.O.T.M., the Thimble club, the Whist club, being elegant and beautifully appropriate. The funeral discourse was by the Rev. Fred P. Arthur of Grand Rapids, a first cousin of deceased, he being assisted by Rev. A. B. Griffith of the local Church of Christ. The singing was by Mrs. Brock, Miss Greta Benedict, Messrs. Thane Benedict and Wing Yates. The carriers were three brothers, John A., Hal C., Frank A. Sessions, and F. A. Stiven. The remains were laid to rest in Highland Park.
