The Ionia Weekly Standard, Friday, December 13, 1889


Maria, beloved wife of Benjamin R. Covert, died in this city on Tuesday, aged 
57 years.  Mrs. Covert had been in poor health for a long time, and especially 
during the nine months last past had she been a great sufferer.

She was the devoted mother of three children, Dr. Riley W. Covert of Castleton, 
Dakota, Mrs. F. A. Stiven of this city, and Elmer W. Covert of Grand Rapids, 
all of whom survive her, and will follow the remains to their last earthly 
resting place, word having been received from the former, that he could arrive 
in time to attend the funeral, which is being held at the home on East 
Washington street, as we go to press.

Mrs. Covert had resided in Ionia about 33 years, was a consistent Christian 
lady, a worthy wife and mother, and a respected neighbor.  Her friends were 
many.
