Services for Mary Cowels
Mrs. Mary Jane Cowels, of 1336 North 26th St., Kalamazoo died Thursday 
afternoon, May 11, 1978. She was born October 5, 1923 in Lake Odessa, the 
daughter of Bert and Elsie Gilliland and was a resident here for the past 40 
years.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond "Pete"; one son Edward R Cowels; one 
daughter, Mrs. Stewart (Linda) Smith; 4 grandchildren, 4 brothers, George 
Gilliland  of Kalamazoo, Thomas Gilliland of Freeport, Charlie Gilliland of 
Harrisburg, Pa., and Wayne Gilliland of Ionia; two sisters, Mrs.Plynn (Doris) 
Collier of Kalamazoo and Margaret Gardner of St. Petersburg, Fla., several 
nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Langeland Memorial Chapel. 
Rev. Spencer Spaulding of the Eastwood Church of God officiated with interment 
in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
