Homer Nicholas Cowles, 85, of 7947 Palmer Road, Belding, died Sunday in The 
University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor.  Born April 27, 1906, in St. Johns, 
he was the son of Ralph and Myrtie Barrett  Cowles.  

A farmer and fruit grower, he was a former Otisco Township supervisor and also 
served as a county commissioner and chairman of the board of commissioners.  He 
was a member of Belding United Methodist Church.  He was married to Josephine 
Conklin in Elkhart, Ind., on Oct. 22, 1932.  She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Clark of Howell; a son, 
Raymond Cowles of Belding; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and 
a brother, Coyne Cowles of St. Johns.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Huffman Funeral Home, 
with the Rev. Nathaniel Johnson officiating.  Burial will be in River Ridge 
Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and 
Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  A memorial has been established for 
the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
