Belding - James S. Cowles, 80, of 3578 Whites Bridge Road, Belding, died
Saturday March 18, 1989, at Belding Christian Nursing Home.  A retired farmer,
he was born Aug. 16, 1908 in Otisco Township to Edward and Cynthia Breimayer
Cowles.  He was a member of Smyrna Bible Church.

Surviving are his wife Marie; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Shirley
Cowles, Belding; three grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five step-great
grandchildren.

Funeral-committal services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Huffman Funeral Home,
Belding, the Rev. Darwin Hassert officiating.  Burial is in Smyrna Cemetery. 
The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home tonight and
Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Smyrna Bible
Church.
