Cowles, passed away at her home, two miles south of Smyrna, Friday morning. She had not been very well all winter, and was feeling exceptionally-well Thursday evening. About three o'clock Friday morning her son Carl, with whose family she lived, went to her room to see if there was anything he could do for her. She told him no, she was real sleepy. About 6:30 when the family got up and went to see her she was found to be sleeping the sleep from which none ever awake. She had a happy look on her face and her hands folded across her breast as if asleep. She was past 78 years old and leaves five sons and one daughter, besides a number of grandchildren to mourn her loss. The children are Spencer Cowles of Belding, Ed Cowles, Will Cowles of Smyrna, Bela Bowles of Lowell and Carl Cowles who lives on the old farm, and Mrs. James Spencer of near Belding. The funeral was held Monday, Rev. Norton officiating. Chas. Cowles who has just returned from France and is being treated at Camp Custer, was here to attend his grandmother's funeral Monday.
