B. Cowles, aged 75 years, a life long resident of this vicinity passed away from earth life on Saturday morning, September 6, at four o’clock, at Kalkaska, where she had gone to escape a dreaded hay fever attack. Her demise was caused by a complication of diseases. Mrs. Cowles had left here on July 30 and had gone to the northern Michigan town and was stopping with Fred Jensen, at Kalkaska, when death occurred. Mrs. Jensen had attended her and had given her medicine each hour. At three o’clock Saturday morning when the last medicine was administered, Mrs. Cowles was resting comfortably, but at four o’clock when another dose of medicine was to be given, Mrs. Jensen found the sufferer dead. News of her death at once was wired to this city and shortly after noon on Saturday, Undertaker Ben Friendly and driver Al. Cichy, of the Miller & Harris Furniture Co. left here with the company hearse and went up to Kalkaska after the body. They returned to this city Sunday night at about eight o’clock. The funeral was held from her late home on South Bridge St. Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock, Re.v Isadore Davenport, of Battle Creek, officiating. Fred Cornell and Mrs. E. E. Hudson sang some beautiful song selections. Burial was made in River Ridge cemetery. Those attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hawkins, of Howell, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Witt, of Linden, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Cowles, of Trufant, and Mrs. George Tottingham and Kittie and Geneva Sixbury, of Greenville.
