Ionia Sentinel Standard 23 Apr 1974

A lifelong Portland resident, Mrs. Minnie Newman Cowley, 93, died Monday at
Roselawn Manor in Lansing.  Her husband, Thomas Cowley, died many years ago. 
Born December 4, 1880, in Portland, she was the daughter of Frederick and Emma
Chase Newman.  Her parents were among the first pioneer families of the Portland
area.  Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Ruby Ludwig of Ann Arbor.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Neller funeral home in
Portland.  Rev. Maurice Christenson of Portland Baptist church will officiate
and interment will be at Portland cemetery.  Bearers will be Glenn Perry, Howard
Coe, Peter Baker and Hal Hendee.
