HUBBARDSTON – Mary Elizabeth Cowman was born in Canada, December 25, 1864, and 
came to Hubbardston in early childhood.  She became the wife, June 24, 1890, 
of John W. Cowman, who for many years conducted a general store in the 
village.  She is survived by five children, Lawrence Cowman and James Cowman, 
of Chesaning, Mrs. J. Harlin of Chicago, Raymond Cowman and Catherine Cowman 
at home, several grandchildren and other relatives, besides a host of friends 
and neighbors.  She had suffered a lingering illness and death came Monday 
morning, June 19, at the Clinton Memorial Hospital in St. Johns.  Funeral 
services were held Thursday morning at 9:30 o’clock, at St. John the Baptist 
church.
