Cox, 73, of Ionia, passed away June 19, 2000, at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. Lorraine Estelle Helmer was born on Aug. 2, 1926, in Mecosta, the daughter of Glen and Mina (Good) Helmer. She attended grade school in Muir and high school in Saranac. She was married on Oct. 8, 1959, in Ionia to Ross Cox. Lorraine Cox loved to bowl, knit, do puzzle books, walk and tend to her flowers, but especially loved her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and was dearly loved by her family. Cox is survived by her husband; one daughter, Jean James of Ionia; two sons, Warren Wrisley of Kaleva and Ross Charles Cox Jr. of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, Beth James of Lyons; great-grandchildren, Jason and Melany Schwab of Lyons; one sister, Beverly (Earl) Peterson of Belding; four brothers, Wayne (Nancy) Helmer of Saranac, Thayne (Mary) Helmer Ionia, Maynard (Barbara) Helmer of Iona and Donald (Deanne) Helmer of Ionia; three sisters-in-law, Frances Helmer of Ionia, Stella Helmer of Ionia and Joy Helmer of Orleans; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Warren Wrisley; and three brothers, George, Bud and Larry Helmer. Funeral services for Cox will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be in Tuttle Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Thursday at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Ionia County Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
