Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, Nov. 29, 1883

On the 20th inst. at 6 a. m., Mrs. Amanda Hawk Cox, wife of Martin Cox, died in 
her 44th year, of congestion of the brain, after years of painful suffering. 
The deceased was born and reared in Crawford county, Ohio, and with her husband 
moved to Michigan in the fall of 1867, and since that time has resided in 
Odessa, in this county, until the appointment of Mr. Cox as keeper at the S. H. 
of C. She was buried in Highland Park cemetery on the 21st inst. The funeral 
services were conducted by Chaplain C. I. Deyo at their residence near the S.H. 
of C. Mr. Cox tenders his heartfelt thanks to the warden, officers of the S. H. 
of C., and neighbors who rendered him kind aid sympathy during the great trial 
he has passed through.
