Lake Odessa Wave, 20 Aug 1942

Ella Paul Coykendall was born in Rutland township, Barry county, in 1871 and 
died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 11, 1942, at her home on Jordan Lake avenue at the 
age of 71 years.

She was married to Frank Coykendall in Hastings in 1893 and they lived in 
Berlin, Boston and Odessa townships but settled in Lake Odessa 45 years ago.

To this union three children were born, Pearl who died at the age of six 
months, Marjory, now Mrs. Cecil C. Hershiser, and a son Lester of Rockford.  
She was a member of Central Methodist church for many years.

Besides the husband and the daughter and son mentioned, she is survived by five 
grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Pearl Mattison in Lansing.

The funeral was largely attended at Central Methodist church here Friday 
afternoon with the Rev. Leon W. Manning of Charlotte, a former pastor 
officiating, Mrs. Thomas Johnson furnishing the music.  The following were pall 
bearers:  Earl Reed, Fred Bulling, Daniel Skellenger, Fred Urtel, Charles 
Huntzinger and Alfred Ritter.  Burial was in Lakeside cemetery.

Those from out of town who were in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Pearl 
Mattison and son Winfield, Mrs. Ed Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hershiser, Mrs. 
Glee Newton, Mrs. Effie Freeman and Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Slueter of Lansing; Mr. 
and Mrs. Dorrance Tetherie, Mrs. Anna Tetherie, Mrs. Sybil Warner, Mr. and Mrs. 
John Benedict, Mr. and Mrs. Dell Wilcox, Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Kennedy, Mr. and 
Mrs. John Whitright, Mrs. Allie Dunlap, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Nash, Mr. and Mrs. 
Elmer Scruble, and Mrs. Lina Robinson of Hastings.

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Douglas and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Douglas of Kalamazoo, Mr. and 
Mrs. Thomas Gillett and Mrs. Pearl Gillett of Middleville, Mr. and Mrs. 
Clifford Palmer of New Bedford, Mr. and Mrs. Grant McKean and Mr. and Mrs. 
Ralph Grilley of Grant, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Newton and son and Mrs. Chalmer 
Miller of Freeport, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walton of Ionia, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne 
Wymans of Picwic, O., Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Glahn of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle 
Lacy, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Merrett of Saranac.
