The Portland Observer, Thursday, November 91, 1925

Joseph Crane, 88, a pioneer resident of Berlin township, was struck and almost 
instantly killed by a Grand Trunk train, Monday afternoon, while crossing the 
railroad bridge two miles south of Ionia.  He was walking across the bridge 
when the accident occurred.  He is survived by a widow and several children.
