His death occurred at St. Lawrence Hospital at Lansing on Wednesday morning at 6 o’clock, after two operations had proven futile in an attempt to save his life. Mr. Crane was one of the most prominent and highly respected residents and citizens of the county. He was active in the Democratic party, was a former township clerk and was a member of the Ionia County Bar association being admitted about 23 years ago, . . . [unreadable line]. . . and was always prosperous in whatever he undertook to do. It was two weeks ago that Mr. Crane complained of a piercing sensation in his throat. At first he was not thought serious and it went unnoticed for a short time. Then he was removed to the hospital at Lansing and following the surgical work he was announced to be on the road to recovery. Tuesday it became necessary to feed him through an incision, his throat being in such condition that food could not pass through. Another operation was necessary and it was during this work that Mr. Crane succumbed. Mr. Crane’s farm is two and one-half miles southeast of Collins. He is survived by his wife, his father W. W. Crane, of Ionia, and one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Clark, of Detroit. The funeral will be held from the Catholic church at Portland on Friday morning at 9 o’clock.
