She was the eldest daughter of John W. and Harriett Crane. The father, John W., was one of the sturdy pioneers of Ionia county, and the family still obtained a commission issued by Stevens Thomson Mason, appointing him a lieutenant during the time of the Toledo-Ohio war. Deceased lived at home with her parents until their death, caring for them in sickness and in health. After their death she could not give up the old home and its ties so dear to her, so she remained and lived alone for some three or four year. As age came creeping on and the infirmities connected, she was compelled to give it up, and went to live with her younger sister at Norcatur, Kansas, to spend her remaining days. All medical skill was exhausted and the hands of a loving sister could to no more. She gave up this life on February 12th, 1916, at the home of her sister in Kansas, aged 70 years, 7 months, 8 days. Miss Crane was a woman of more than ordinary intellectual ability. She was a great reader and well informed on all questions pertaining to woman’s world. She loved home, home ties and her friends, and was especially fond of children. Out of a family of seven children but two survive: Dr. Marion Crane of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Adella E. Sayles of Kansas, to mourn her departure. Many friends and neighbors join with them in their sorrow. Funeral services at Bradley’s undertaking rooms in Ionia on Wednesday, February 16th at one o’clock p.m. Interment in Balcom cemetery.
