Crane, 82, well known resident of Berlin township, on numerous occasions when he was quizzed regarding his hiking on highways and railroad tracks. Monday after he sustained injuries, when struck by a fast Grand Trunk passenger train on a railroad bridge, a mile and a half west of Ionia that resulted in his death 30 minutes later as he was being hurried to a Grand Rapids hospital. Mr. Crane a number of years ago formed a habit of taking two walks daily and it was during his second walk on Monday that he was struck as he was passing over the bridge near his home. Although hurled many feet he was not thrown from the structure. One foot was severed, his legs broken in several places and his skull fractured. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon from the late residence with Rev. M. D. Decker of the Church of Christ and the Ionia Masonic order in charge. Interment was made in Balcom cemetery. He had been a resident of this county since his marriage 61 years ago, and his demise separated him from his wife whom he had lived with more than six decades. His widow, 78, survives, two daughters, Mrs. France Bissell of Pewamo and Mrs. Lecky Beadle of Easton township, and one sister, Mrs. Homer Adgate of Berlin township. Mr. Crane was a staunch Democrat and for a number of years was school director in Berlin. He was a member of the Ionia Masonic order and the B.P.O.E. He owned a 107-acre farm in Berlin.
