Crane, a well known Portland farmer whose sudden death was chronicled in these columns last week, were laid to rest in a grave in Portland cemetery Sunday afternoon with full Masonic ceremonies, I. A. Leslie, a former master of Portland lodge, repeating the impressive burial service as the body slowly sank from view. About 40 members of the lodge, clad in white gloves and aprons, were out to pay final tribute to a worthy brother. Rev. Wm. H. Skentelbury, of the congregational church, officiated at the house. The ceremony was simple. At the cemetery the body was met by the Masons, who took full charge of the burial. Bearers were Frank W. Pryer, Thos. J. Dill, Freeman Shotwell and John Hudson, Masonic brethren and neighbors of deceased. The floral offerings were abundant. Out-of-town guests were Mr. Crane’s two sisters, Mrs. W. M. Foresman and Mrs. Clara Bither, of Sparta, Wis.; Mrs. Addie Griffin, Nashville; Mrs. May Pendill, Vermontville; Miss Lucile Pendill, Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Snyder and Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Shuart, Mulliken. Mr. Crane’s third sister, Mrs. H. N. Brokaw, of Cedar Rapids, Ia., found it impossible to come for the funeral owing to poor health.
