April 25, 1988 ALTA R.CRAVEN IONIA-Alta R.Cravens, 90, of Ionia died Sunday at the Hazel Finley County Manor in St. Johns. Born April 20, 1898, in Fenwick, she was the daughter of Arthur and Carrie Frost Pierce. She lived in Ionia for 80 years, and was the city clerk-treasurer from 1935-1939. She was deputy county treasurer from 1939 until she retired in 1948. She was married to Richard E. Cravens Aug. 8, 1945, he died in 1953. She was a member of the Auxiliary No.1362m Veterans of World War I, and a life member of the Queen Esther Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, having joined in 1926. Surviving are two sisters, Lila Treat of St. Johns and Helen Pierce of St. Louis, MO.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A sister Josephine Fein, also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rich Street Chapel,Cook Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lawrence Cook officiating. Burial will be in Sunny Hill Cemetery, Fenwick.
