H. Creighton, 78, was broadcast over the community. He died suddenly while visiting his son, Arthur, at Elkhart, Indiana. It was only two weeks ago that Mrs. Creighton succumbed, the funeral being held a week ago last Friday. This couple was one of the most highly respected in the township of Sebewa, in fact Ionia county, as Mr. Creighton was the oldest thresher of the shire and was active in farm work until about six months ago. The couple had been wedded, up until the time of Mrs. Creightons’ death, for 56 years, a remarkable wedded life. And both to be taken from this life within two weeks duration seems almost impossible to the friends and relatives of the deceased. The body was shipped to the late home on Tuesday afternoon. The funeral was held from the Wesleyan church with Rev. Dinsmore in charge, on Wednesday afternoon. Burial took place at the Baptist cemetery at Lake Odessa. Mr. and Mrs. Creighton resided in the same home in Sebewa for a period of 54 years. Mr. Creighton owned 89 acres. The farm was entirely cleared by himself, and all the buildings were constructed by his hands. Mr. Creighton is survived by eight sons, nearly all living on farms near Lake Odessa and Portland. Daniel A. is the oldest and lives north of the father’s farm; then there is Charles H., Peter, who lives east of the Creighton homestead, Robert, George, who lives in Lansing, Chester, who is in Montana, Samuel, and then the youngest, who has been at home with the father and mother, helping in the farm work, the latter son’s name being Arthur. A silver maple tree on the property was set out by Mr. Creighton 48 years ago. His son, Charles, was two years old at that time. The maple is a strong, husky tree now and has several stalwart appearing branches protruding in every direction. Mr. Creighton was married in 1867 which is 55 years ago. He has lived a happy wedded life. He was born in Perth Center, New York in 1845. He came to Michigan in 1864. He wanted to enlist in the Civil war, but a guardian who had his control in New York state refused to give permission.
