Excerpts from Ionia Obituary

Joan Stilwell Cremer

Died November 23, 2024-age 72 at South Dakota.
Born April 14, 1952 in Vermillion, South Dakota, to Gladys Louise (Ferree) 
Stilwell and Wilber Moore Stilwell, the third of three daughters.
Joan received her degree from University of South Dakota in Computer Science.
She worked at USD Computer lab as head of database management.
Married Roger Cremer on January 2, 1986, were married for 39 years.
Raised their two daughters, Jacqueline Stilwell Cremer & Sarah Stilwell Cremer.
Joan was fond of animals & supported the Ionia County Animal Shelter.
She enjoyed drawing, antiquing, DIY projects, art & family travels.
Joan & her sisters spent many hours organizing, cataloguing, & preserving 
artwork by their father, Wilber Moore Stilwell, a well-known S.Dakota artist & 
educator & their mother, Gladys Ferree Stilwell, an artist & inventor.
Joan's strength of mind & spirit carried her through 4 1/2 years of aggressive 
treatment for sarcoma, a rare cancer.
Preceded in death by her parents, roger's parents,Leonard & Anita Cremer.
Survived by her husband, Roger, two daughters, Jacqueline (Tate Kirgis) & Sarah 
(RIchard Galasso),her grandchild Sloane Kirgis, sisters,Mary VanLoan(Charles & 
Elizabeth Brechtel(Jon);seven Cremer siblings & their spouses; many nieces, 
nephews, & great-nieces & nephews. 
Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2025.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ionia County Animal Shelter & the Sarcoma 
Foundation of America.
