Cribbs, 73, of 331 Pearl Street, well known throughout the state for his work in agriculture and former Ionia county agricultural agent, died Sunday at 2 p.m. at the University hospital, Ann Arbor. He had been in poor health for several years and had spent the past several winters in the South. He was admitted to the University hospital September 24. Cribbs began extension work for Michigan State college in 1918 in Bellaire, Antrim county. In 1920 he went to east Lansing and helped organize agricultural cooperative marketing associations throughout the state. He worked a total of 26 years for the college. Later he was district county agent for eight north central counties including Ionia County, and later became agricultural agent for Ionia County. He roomed here for a time before moving his family here in 1936. He retired in 1943. Cribbs was district agriculture agent from 1928 to 1936 and Ionia county agriculture agent from 1937 to 1943. He was born April 26, 1878 in Bainbridge Center, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cribbs. He attended Benton Harbor college and Parsons Business college in Chicago. In 1902 he was married in Penn Yan to Ida Randall. They lived in Chicago for two years after their marriage and then went to Watervliet where they owned a farm. Cribbs was an ardent sportsman and fisherman and often traveled out of state to avail himself of good hunting. He was a life member of the Ionia County fishing and Hunting club. He attended the Ionia Methodist church but was a member of the People’s church in East Lansing. He was also a member of the Ionia Garden Club. Surviving him are the widow; two sons, Leland R. of Laingsburg and W. Corydon of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. E. E. Cribbs, of Three Rivers. A son, Alan, preceded him in death. Services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home. Dr. Howard A. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate.
