Crispin was born of American parents at Waynesville, Q., March 22, 1843. He was educated at Lebanon, Ohio, united with the Church of Christ, and served in the Civil War, Fourth Independent Battalion, Ohio cavalry. In 1866? he married Mary Carman, who died in 1871 leaving two sons. In 1868 he moved to Benzie county, Michigan and later to Ionia county, where in 1875, he married Callie D. Moon, who bore him two sons and one daughter. After teaching several years in various localities, he settled in Ionia, January 1, 1880. For over thirty-five years he was a foreman painter for the D. L. & N., and Pere Marquette. Shortly after coming to Ionia he united with the Baptist church, in which he has been a deacon since 1896. He died July 21, 1918, of paralysis after an illness of ten days, the first break in the family circle for forty-six years, and was laid to rest in Oakhill July 24. He is survived by the widow and five children, Wilmarth, Edwin, Charles, Ethel, and Lynn, a brother Joseph, a sister, Miss Henrietta, three grandchildren, John and Dwight Crispin and Mrs. H. R. Jones, and a great grandchild, Betty Ann Jones. He was an unceasing worker and was best known for his devotion to his family and his faithfulness to his employers.
