March 2, 1927 Mrs. Wm. A. Croel, an Old Resident, Is Heart Victim Mrs. William A. Croel, for over three quarters of the century a resident of Ionia county and for 54 years a resident of Ionia township, died suddenly at her home, five and one-half miles southeast of Ionia Tuesday morning. Mrs.Croel had been in poor health the larger part of the winter, but her death was not expected at this time. Tuesday morning Mrs.Croel had eaten a breakfast and was paring potatoes for the noon meal when she was taken with a heart attack. She only lived about a minute after the attack. Her daughter-in-law, Mrs.Lawrence Croel, was with her at the time. Had Mrs. Croel lived until April they would have celebrated their fifty-second wedding anniversary. Mrs. Croel lived on the farm where her death occurred for a time before her marriage. She was born in a log house located where the Portland depot now stands 76 years ago in 1850. Her maiden name was Miss Emiline Way. Besides her husband she is survived by five children, William F. Croel, Lawrence Croel and Claude Croel, all of Ionia township; Mr.Walter Herrick of Stanton and Mrs. James Brown of Hubbardston. Her only sister Mrs.Ben Stevens, lives at Lyons. The funeral service will be held at the residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. C.E. Thies of the LaValley Church,, will officiate. Burial will be in the Tuttle cemetery.
