Cronk (Pops), aged 75, of Ionia passed away February 22, 2014 in Grand Rapids. He was born January 10, 1939, in Ionia, the son of Francis and Cleobelle (Morrison) Cronk. Richard was a lifelong resident of Ionia, though he also spent time in California and Honduras. He attended Welch School, a rural K-8 school, and then Ionia High School. As a young man he served in the Marine Corps. He had several businesses in the area throughout his life. Pops had a big heart and charming personality. He was often the life of the party, laughing, dancing, and making people smile. Pops was fond of family/friends gatherings at "da property" near Mackinaw City. His fun-loving and adventurous spirit took him to far-away places; the tropical sandy beaches of Trujillo, Honduras among his favorites. He is survived by his children Kelly Cronk of Ionia, Kammi Johannsen of Virginia, Kevin Cronk of Petoskey, Kip (Carrie) Cronk of Bay City, Ada (Edward) Pickell of Ypsilanti and Jhon Gil of Ionia, brothers Francis (Judy) Cronk Jr. of Mackinac City and Robert (Bonnie) Cronk of Clarksville and sisters Beverly (Richard) Hodgkins and Wanda Marcussen of Ionia. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and his dear friend Sara Gil. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Kacee and Heather, brothers Glenn and John, and brother in-law Jerry Marcussen. Funeral Services will be held at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia, Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers Richard's family would prefer memorial contributions towards his grandchildren (Kierra and Shiah) college funds.
