Ionia Sentinel Standard, 19 Jun 1985

Emma Jane Crossman, 70, of 2748 Welch Road, Ionia, died Tuesday evening in 
Ionia County Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 10, 1915, in Onaway, Mich., she was the daughter of Henry T. and 
Blanche Reynolds Welch.  She graduated from Ionia High School with the Class of 
1935 and attended Western Michigan University, from which she was graduated 
with a bachelor of arts in education.  She taught in the Belding public schools.

She also served as Ionia Township treasurer and as a board member of the Ionia 
County Chapter, American Red Cross.

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

She was married to D. Sheldon Crossman on Dec. 2, 1939, at the family residence 
in Ionia.  They had made their home on the Welch family farm for the past 40 
years.

Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Mary Jo Crossman of Ionia; a brother, 
Douglas R. Welch of Ionia; cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place.  No services will be held.  A memorial has been 
established for the Ionia County Unit, American Cancer Society, in care of Hull 
Memorial Chapel, Muir, which made arrangements.
