Sheldon Crossman, 80, a farmer in Ionia Twp. Since 1948, died Nov. 29 at the family home. He was born Feb. 1, 1917 in Lansing, the son of Egbert and Elgie Pierce Crossman. He was a graduate of East Lansing High School and Michigan State University. As a distinguished soldier in the European theater in WWII, he was awarded the purple heart. His interests in work life included loan officer at the National Farm Loan, area director of the Farmers Home Administration, served as a board member and Sec’y manager of the Ionia Free Fair, a member and past president of Rotary, member of Elks Lodge, Ionia County Club, Michigan State Alumni and supporter of the Ralph Young Scholarship Fund including a football season ticket holder for 48 years at M.S.U. He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Wallace and Ruth McMartin of Minneapolis, Mn.; one daughter, Mary Jo of Ionia Twp.; and nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 46 years, Emma Jane Welch Crossman. At his request, there will be no funeral nor memorial service. Cremation has taken place. There will be graveside services held Friday, Dec. 12, 2:30 p.m. at Easton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice, or to the Ionia County Commission on Aging or the Ionia Free Fair building fund. Arrangements by Hull Funeral Home, Muir.
