Basil A. Crowder, 73, of Lakeview, formerly of Belding and Greenville, died
Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, from injuries sustained
in an accident in September.  He was born in Jennings on Jan. 22, 1932, the son
of Winfield S. and Pearl Flack Crowder.  

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Okinawa, retired after many years
as a masonry contractor and was a former member of the American Legion.  He
married Oveda P. Willett on June 12, 1966, and she died from a car pedestrian
accident on Aug. 15, 1999.  He was also preceded in death by brothers, Merlin
and Calvin Crowder; and sisters, Lillian Helmer, Winnifred McClain, Dorthea
Crowder.

He is survived by daughter, Lisa K. Rigney and Joe Morin of Gowen; grandsons;
K.J. Rigney, Casey Rigney, Riley Morin; brother, Melvin Crowder of Midland;
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Adeline Ballmer of Manton, Donna Willett of
Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Robert and Joanne Willet of Manton; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with the
Rev. Harry R. Johnson officiating.  Burial is in Lake City Cemetery.  Visitation
is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
