In 1865, although very young, he managed to enlist as a page to the Colonel of Co. F., New York Volunteers. Later on he located in Michigan and died April 10 at Grand Rapids as the result of an operation at the U.B.A. hospital. The funeral was held at Smyrna Saturday at 10 a.m. He would have been 49 years of age the 13th of next month. He leaves a wife and many friends by whom he was highly esteemed.
