Robert W. Culman, 84, of Ionia, formerly of Traverse City, passed away 
Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at Ionia County Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 24, 1918 in St. Louis, the son of Jacob and Rena (Berg) 
Culman.  Mr. Culman married the former Mary Watkoski on April 27, 1940.  He was 
a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in WWII.  Robert worked for the 
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, retiring in 1980.  He was a 
member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 
944, the Loyal Order of Moose, and a member of the VFW Post 5065, Sheridan.

Mr. Culman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; children, Ronald Culman 
of Ionia, Gary (Vicki) Culman of Lansing, and Charlene (Douglas) Erridge of 
Ionia; grandchildren, Greg Spitzley (fiancé Nikki McGuire) Dawn (Gary) 
Cunningham, Karen (Brian) Waters, Lisa (Don) Thomas, and Deanna Culman; great-
grandchildren Ashley and Tyler Waters, Scott Spitzley, Brandon and Brent 
Cunningham, Kaylie and Cody Thomas and Daniel and Brianna Culman; and brother 
Gerald (Delores) Culman.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother 
Richard Culman.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Cook Funeral 
Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia, with Rev. Fr. Melvin Fox, Pastor of SS. Peter and 
Paul Catholic Church, officiating.  Interment will be Monday at Oakwood 
Catholic Cemetery, Traverse City.  Family grave side services will be held 
Spring 2003.  The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home 
Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.  For those desiring, memorial 
contributions may be made to the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Memorial 
Fund, in memory of Robert W. Culman.  Arrangements by Cook Funeral Home, Ionia.
