The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, November 4, 2014


Mary M. Culman, of Ionia, formerly of Traverse City, age 96, beloved mother, 
grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother passed away at 
Heartland Healthcare on Thursday, October 30, 2014. 

She was born on June 24, 1918 in Traverse City, MI the daughter of Paul and 
Blanche (Zenlinski) Watkoski.  Mary was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church in Ionia, and worked as a waitress at Pattie's Lunch and the Ionia 
Hotel.  She enjoyed shuffleboard, dancing to polka, playing bingo, and 
especially enjoyed spending time with her family and entertaining visitors. 

She married Robert Culman on April 27, 1940, and he preceded her in death in 
2002.  Also preceding her in death were her parents; son, Gary Culman; son-in-
law, Douglas Erridge; 12 brothers and sisters. 

Surviving are her children, Charlene Erridge and Ronald Culman, both of Ionia; 
five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; 
and her beloved dog, Peggy. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2014 at Lehman 
Funeral Homes, 220 Rich Street, Ionia, with Rev. Thomas Boufford of Ss. Peter 
and Paul Catholic Church presiding.  Rite of Committal will take place at 
Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery, Traverse City, MI.  The family will receive 
friends from noon until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
